1871 -- AGS Archives   The AGS honors C.F. Hall and the Polaris Expedition.   The Mont Cenis Tunnel, the first of the great tunnels through the Alps to be completed, opened on September 17, 1871. It runs for 13km from Modane, France, to Bardonecchia, Italy.
