1945 -- AGS Archives

  Two newly discovered elements were announced on November 16, 1945: americium (atomic number 95) and curium (atomic number 96).
  The Atomic Age becomes reality on August 6, 1945, when the U.S. drops an atom bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, at the end of World War II.
  The Atomic Age begins on July 16, 1945, with the first test of a plutonium bomb in the New Mexico desert.
