1945 -- AGS Archives

On August 7, 1947, the Kon Tiki raft runs aground on the Tuamotu Archipelago 101 days after leaving Peru. The expedition, led by Thor Heyerdahl, attempted to prove that pre-Incan Indians could have colonised the Polynesian islands simply by drifting on ocean currents.
Pakistan is founded on August 14, 1947, when British rule over the region ends and the Asian subcontinent is partitioned into Islamic Pakistan and predominantly Hindu India.
