  The Cape Verde Islands become independent on July 5, 1975, after 500 years of Portuguese rule.
  Chinese archeologists announce the discovery on July 11, 1975, of a 3-acre burial mound in Xian concealing 6000 terracotta warriors and their regalia dating from 221 to 206 BCE.
  On June 25, 1975, Mozambique achieves independence from Portugal after 477 years of colonialism.
