THE UNIVERSITY CONSORTIUM

FOR GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SCIENCE

The American Geographical Society (AGS) shares many goals in common with the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS), and has been a UCGIS member since 1997. The AGS publishes the Geographical Review - one of the world's leading scholarly periodicals devoted exclusively to geography; FOCUS on Geography - a quarterly magazine featuring articles by academic and professional geographers, in-depth theme sections, maps and photos, and special country issues; and Ubique - a newsletter communicating AGS news and events to its members.
The AGS Collection is one of North America's foremost geography and map collections. It was established by the AGS and housed in the Society's headquarters in New York from 1851 to 1978, when it was transferred to the Golda Meir Library of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee following a nationwide selection process conducted by the Society. The Society maintains an active interest in the AGS Collection, including representation on its administrative board. AGS Council meetings occasionally are held at the facility.
