Postmodern Phoenix

Michael Schmandt

ABSTRACT

Observations about the effects of postmodernism on the urban landscape has been numerous, but measurement of the effects has been limited. As long as they are vague and debated, definitions of postmodernism will be ambiguous. This study focuses on downtown Phoenix, Arizona, a city that has experienced significant growth since World War II, to examine the role of postmodernism on the urban landscape. A buffer procedure is an important element in the analysis.

Keywords: buffering, Phoenix, postmodernism, urban landscape.
