AN IN-DEPTH PERSPECTIVE ON TASMANIA
February 7 - 23, 2005 (17 days)
Discover Tasmania's wild and beautiful island landscapes and its friendly, welcoming people, 130 miles off the southeast corner of Australia, during a cruise aboard the 64-cabin Clipper Odyssey. More than a third of Tasmania is national park and Tasmania Wilderness World Heritage Area - habitat supporting myriad flora and fauna. Anchoring in Tasmania's secluded bays, use the Odyssey's fleet of Zodiac landing craft to go ashore on South Bruny Island, Southwest National Park rainforest, and Freycinet National Park. Learn about Tasmania's colorful history at Port Arthur, site of one of the island's many former penal colonies, and at Flinders Island, where a visit to Wybalena Chapel offers insights into Tasmania's Aboriginal history. Conclude your adventure in cosmopolitan Sydney, Australia, exploring this fascinating city's many landmarks during a group tour and time at leisure.
Lecturer: Dr. John Rennie Short, Chair and Professor of Geography at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Price: $5,317 and higher, plus airfare.
